Los Arcos - Logroño

Today Concha picked us up again to take us to Los Arcos, which was still in the seventh dream. We resumed where we left off yesterday with eagerness because today’s route is perhaps one of the longest of the entire journey.

Sansol is a small village located just after leaving Los Arcos, with beautiful views of the Odrón River. Its church, as is customary, stands out above all the buildings, although it is situated on the outskirts of the urban center. Its streets retain the medieval layout with narrow, cobbled streets, and if we have to highlight any building, it is the Baroque palace in the main square and a series of palatial houses from the same era with stone facades and straight balconies. It is quite striking to observe such a number of stately homes in such a small place 🏰.

Crossing the Linares River, we arrive at Torres del Río, a beautiful village of stone houses clustered around the church of San Andrés and the Holy Sepulcher, built by the Templars and used as a base in their work of protecting the pilgrim. It has an attached circular tower with a lighthouse on top to guide the pilgrims. 

Viana is the last Navarrese town before entering La Rioja. It is a historic walled city with slopes that challenge even the most prepared pilgrims 🤭. They are celebrating, so it was quite lively. The streets, like those in Pamplona, are prepared for the typical bull runs in this area. Additionally, you can read instructions in almost every shop on what to do if you decide to run with the bulls 🐄. We are clear that we won’t…

Taking advantage of the fact that there was a bakery open, we bought a village bread that was to die for 🥖 and continued on our way to Logroño, crossing the “border” between Navarre and Logroño, marked by the hermitage of the Virgen de las Cuevas. From there, the path has been quite easy, thank goodness, because we were already feeling tired. The landscape as you enter the wine province becomes greener among vineyards and olive trees, leaving behind the brown fields of Navarre. It feels different; we couldn’t say if one is better or worse than the other.

You enter Logroño via the Puente de Piedra, which leads to the old town, but since we visited it yesterday, today we went straight to the campsite to take a shower and move Thorqui to the next point, stopping first in a wooded area with tables to eat something and take a little nap in the shade.

The campsite where we stayed last night was worth seeing. Small, filled with wooden bungalows that reminded us of those found on beaches, we assume that’s why it was called “Camping La Playa.” The bathrooms were vintage-style, like those in stately homes, and something curious that is not often found in many places was that they had heating 😀. We liked it a lot.

Tonight we are sleeping in an area for motorhomes at the entrance of Nájera. We went for a walk and to have a drink, but as always, we are going to bed early because we are extremely tired.
