Peillon – Peillon

Monaco

7th day
This morning we set off to the principality on the motorcycle for a little visit. To be honest, we went just to buy a sticker for Beast and to add the country to our list.

The road was spectacular, a bit rough but beautiful. The weather was nice; as soon as we hit the coastal road, the temperature rose by five degrees.
How to describe the visit to Monaco without being too subjective 🤔… Monte Carlo is a bunch of stones, luxury shops, and in my opinion, too many people.
We managed to park relatively quickly; we thought we would grab a coffee and leave quickly, but in the end, we were encouraged to take a stroll around the harbor. They are preparing the circuit for the Formula I Grand Prix, and if it’s already a crowded space, imagine all the streets filled with barriers and stands 😰.
To our surprise, the coffee wasn’t expensive and was quite good, and the walk turned out to be pleasant due to the temperature and what we discovered about the city.

There are boats in the harbor that we can’t understand how they fit through the entrance 😥. Driving schools use Ferraris to teach how to drive 😟… The people are beautiful; I don’t think they let you in if you’re not. We managed to sneak in because we were wearing helmets 😜.

No matter where you look, especially if you find the right streets, all the shops are branded, some of which we had never heard of.

Some people look at you strangely, especially at Thorsten, who usually wears his thirty-year-old Harley shirts 😱, full of holes that are impossible to mend 😂😂. That’s just how he is 😍.

It wasn’t so bad after all. It reminded us a bit of Luxembourg. We also spent half an hour there…

Nice is considered the capital of the French Riviera, located just twenty-three kilometers from Monaco, and unlike it, it vibrates with the energy of great capitals due to its variety and joy.
We arrived around twelve-thirty, and it was bustling with people from a thousand different nationalities already on the beach and strolling through its picturesque streets.

With a memorial fitting for the city right on the main avenue.

The promenade, Promenade des Anglais, is large and spacious and opens up to a wide and long pebble beach like few others. For an urban beach, it’s great. With the weather we had and being Nice such a touristy city, it was packed. The “Public Beach of the Opera” is the oldest in the city and is located right at the height of the old town.

The Cours Saleya market occupies one of the busiest streets of the second line, and wandering through the area, you fully enter the noble part of the city with its buildings painted in colors and clothes hanging from the windows; it feels like going back to the early twentieth century.
We took a break to eat some crepes at what they say is the best creperie in the city. I don’t know how the others are, but this one was small, family-run, and had delicious ingredients 🫠.

Masséna Square is the main square of the city and suddenly appears before your eyes with its red buildings and its checkered floor giving a certain dizzying sensation😍. An electric tram crosses it from end to end, so silent that it barely disrupts the rhythm of the conversations of passersby.

The Castle Waterfall is a spectacular artificial waterfall built in the 19th century over the old fortress of the city. It falls from the top of a hill, and what catches your attention when you see it from afar is not the noise, obviously, but the shine of the water reflecting the sun’s rays. It seems to give a refreshing feeling from a distance. At the top, there is a panoramic viewpoint of the city 🏙️.

The Water Mirror is an interactive fountain that delights people, especially children, who on days like today move among the 128 nozzles that intermittently spray water. They say the perfect time to visit it is at sunset due to the colorful lights it has ⛲.

We really liked Nice. We both knew it, but it had been so long that today’s visit was a real surprise. The return to the campsite was calm. We didn’t have dinner because the crepes left us quite satisfied.

A little chat on the porch and off to sleep. It gets quite chilly at night 🥶.
Good night... I’ll keep you posted 😘
