Senj – Sibenik
14th day

Today's stop has a special meaning for Thorsten because during the vacations they used to take as children every summer on the family sailboat, this was one of the places where they absolutely loved to drop anchor😍.

I haven't told you that Thorsten's father built a sailboat with his own hands, and they used to spend summers sailing along the Adriatic coast during their vacations. He actually built two 🤦♀️, in the second one, which was much larger, they lived for a year traveling through the Mediterranean with their mother as a homeschool teacher, until the moment came when T and his brother went to university. Their parents continued their journey and ended up in Denia, more specifically in Gata de Gorgos, where they sold the boat and bought the house where T now lives🥰.
And back to our story 😊, we have arrived and parked at a campsite with an amazing beach. Too bad the water is a bit cold.

Following the established plan, I put on my motorcycle gear and we headed to Krka National Park, where the waterfalls of Sibenik are located, where T says he had some amazing baths in his childhood… Apparently, they would sail to one of the lakes, drop anchor, and stay for a couple of days.

Krka National Park is one of the jewels of Croatia. A world sculpted between canyons, barriers, and lakes that shape countless waterfalls embraced by the greenery of the park.

Walking along those paths is a true delight. T has entertained himself with every living creature along the way, specifically insisting on the anurans, which I personally believe he has photographed all of them 😅. I have a world of photos, but I discarded them to avoid turning the blog into an encyclopedia 🤦♀️.

The park can be explored on foot, by boat, or by bicycle. We chose to do it on foot, for the sake of getting some exercise 🚶♂️➡️.

It has seven waterfalls that resonate along the path where we were able to take countless photographs with the idea of capturing the journey, although in the end, they don't do it justice.

It houses a hydroelectric power station that was built in 1895, the first in Europe and the second in the world to use alternating current.

The power station supplied the city of Sibenik, and thanks to this, the city became one of the first in the world to have public lighting powered by alternating current. The original plant was later replaced, and the one that is still operational today was built in its place.
T, being dedicated to this field, spent about half an hour observing the operation of each and every mechanism used 😉.

It is true that during certain times of the year swimming is allowed near the waterfalls, but today, as we weren't interested in that, we passed by. The water is too cold for us.
We prepared dinner, finally 😅 the eggs from happy hens that were gifted to us the other day at the vineyard where we spent the night. Thank goodness because I could already see the chicks wandering around the camper looking for their mother 🤔.

Dinner was like an American breakfast with the eggs, local sausages, super smoked bacon also from a local market, and since today's campsite is also right by the beach, the views were unbeatable.
We saw a huge cruise ship arriving at the port.
Good night… I’ll keep you posted 😘
